Workshops – the classes are all taught by ear and the classes are based on ability not age.  Beginner adults and children are in the same class.  Beginners should be able to hold the fiddle and bow and make sounds preferably know at least one or two tunes.

Each teacher will either teach a tune or technique during their 50 minutes.

We get together on Tuesdays 6:30-7 is for those who want to learn a tune.  Can also come out to rehearse your contest tunes

No you don’t have to be a member to compete, can be from any province except the championship class requires BC resident for at least 3 months.  Seniors must be 65 or over and Intermediate class is 18-64.  Children can enter their age category or any of the other categories except Senior or Intermediate

The Open and Championship categories will play 2 rounds, so they need 6 tunes for Open and 7 tunes for Championship.  The tunes for each round must be different ones.

The other categories will only play one round and they should know a different Jig and reel in case of a tie. The younger ones 12 and younger can play the same tunes in case of a tie.  Follow the rules.

All tunes have to be memorized and no sheet music is allowed.  Is a good idea to practice with your accompaniment and you should know the key for the tunes to give to the accompanist and the tunes should be danceable.

Yes the audience pays for entrance to the contest.  No audience allowed during the workshops except parents if needed.

Schedule for contest not set in stone yet, but tentatively the afternoon will start with the intermediate class, then Seniors, Open, Championship, Twin, 9 and under, 12 and under, youth, Open round 2 and Championship round 2.

The judges performance will be at 3 pm for 30 minutes.

The house accompanist Roxanna Sabir will be available to practice contestant tunes from 10-noon and a spare accompanist will be available from 9- noon. There will be a practice area outside under market tents at the side of the hall.

All contestants need to be registered before the contest begins at 12:30 and they need to attend the judges meeting at 12:30 if possible

There is a free jam on friday at 7 pm after the dinner.  The dinner will be lasagna, veggie and meat and salads for $10.  It is a good thing to come to on Friday.
